Germans dominate on first day in Holmenkollen

The German team won both the mens and the ladies normal distance in Holmenkollen today.

Martina Glagow won the 15 kilometre race for the women while the veteran Sven Fischer took the victory in the men's race. Ole Einar Bjørndalen got second place ahead of Pole Tomasz Sikora. In the womens race Russian Svetlana Ishmouratova finished in second place with one error. Magdalena Gwizdon from Poland came third.

The conditions in Holmenkollen were good on this, the first day of competition in Oslo. Both winners shot perfectly and proved that biathlon is all about both shooting and skiing.

The norwegians did not have a good day in the women's race, but the men had a convincing race with Ole Einar Bjørndalen in second place and young Stian Eckhoff in 8th. Best norwegian in the women's race was Liv Kjersti Eikeland in 11th.
